🐸 The Story Behind the Frog 🐸
Growing up, I was blessed to have the best Grandpa “Grandpa Wendel”. He was best known for his inappropriate jokes, constantly spoiling my brother Wade and I, his love of western shows, his impromptu phone calls to see what we’re up to, his ability to strike up conversation with anyone around, and most importantly his heart of gold. 💛
I remember like it was yesterday, we were at Casa Bonita (of all places 😄) with my Grandpa Wendel, Grandma & fam and as any little kid my age, I was growing my ticket collection from the arcade games to collect my “hard-earned” prizes. I remember going up to the ticket counter and spotting these frogs and I knew that was what I would gladly be spending all my tickets on. I proudly walked away with 8 different frogs in which I gave one each to my family members. I gave my Grandpa the camouflage print one. He loved to hunt so I thought that would suit him perfect.
My Grandpa went as far as to “lick and stick” my ‘hard-earned’ little camo frog, right on his dash board in his truck which, to my surprise stayed perched on his dash from that day on until he passed.
My whole life, I have battled severe anxiety, and there have been times in my life it has felt really heavy and crippling.
One moment that I’ll never forget was when I told my Grandpa Wendel how scared and anxious I was to practice driving. I told him I was so afraid and didn’t want to practice to avoid anything bad that could happen. He heard me, paused, and then looked at me to say, “Abbygirl! You just gotta get in and go!” This phrase has always stuck with me, even to this day.
I’ll always remember the Camo frog stuck to my Grandpa’s dash and him telling me to just ‘get in and go’. I’ve always associated these frogs as my reminder to do just that “get in and go”. This has become an inspiring memory for me to not be anxious and just go for it!
