Carnations are Underrated!

Carnations are usually followed with the common sayings… “Ugh, I hate carnations!”… “Those make me think of funerals..”, “Carnations look so tacky and cheap…” I could go on forever, and having been working with flowers for over 4 years now, I’ve heard all the shade that gets thrown at these poor blooms!

I am here writing, to educate and share just how wonderful these flowers truly are! To start, here’s some background…Carnations are also known scientifically as ‘dianthus caryophyllus’. Some say that they were named after the mythological God, Zeus, and the carnation was known as the flower of the Gods. Carnations mean fascination, love, and distinction. They are also the January birth flower!

One of the many reasons I love carnations…they are very AFFORDABLE FOR SMALLER BUDGETS and are arguably the most fluffiest, ruffly, layered blooms money can buy. Not to mention all the AMAZING COLORS they have. They have the entire rainbow (okay…the blue is artifially dyed, but absolutely GORG!). On top of this array of solid colors, carnations also come in two-toned color varieties. Two-toned (or bi-color) means exactly how it sounds, two colors in one carnation bloom! I know!! It’s my personal favorite, as it adds so much unique texture and color to any floral arrangement! To give an example of some I have seen; the peppermint variety (white carnation with red petal tips), the hurricane variety (light purple carnation with dark purple tips), and I've even seen one that looks like a sunset (yellow carnation with red-orange petal tips).

Carnations add a beautiful touch to any event floral arrangements, whether they are the main flower used or rather as an accent bloom! I’ll never understand why so many people have a personal vendetta out for these poor carnations because, they are so easy on the budget, give such a fun ruffly fluffy appearance, and there is no way you would be disappointed choosing them to accompany your next event!
